Amman Civil Airport to reopen next month—PM of Jordan
The announcement came during the Cabinet’s twelfth monthly session — held in Amman — marking the completion of meetings in all governorates since the government’s formation.
Hassan said the reopening of the Marka airport will help stimulate tourism and create new economic opportunities. He also revealed that studies are nearing completion for a new north–south overpass connecting Sweileh and Naour, which will include a dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route to ease traffic congestion in the capital.
In addition, the government plans to utilize the historic Hejaz Railway line for a light rail project linking Zarqa, Russeifa, and Amman by 2030. The system will be fully integrated with the BRT network to improve public transport efficiency.
Touching on regional affairs, the prime minister reaffirmed Jordan’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause, stressing that “the directives of His Majesty are clear, to stand firmly with the Palestinians.” He noted that Jordan continues to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza through land convoys and field hospitals and will intensify coordination with regional and international partners to sustain the ceasefire.
Hassan also announced the start of the Jabal Al Qalaa cable car project, to be implemented by Roya Amman Company in cooperation with the Tourism Ministry. The 15-month project will connect Amman with Luweibdeh and the Roman Theatre, aiming to rejuvenate the downtown and eastern districts of the capital.
On the economic front, the prime minister said that despite ongoing regional instability, key indicators show continued improvement. Foreign investment has risen by 14%, exports by 9%, and tourism revenues by 8.6%, while the Amman Stock Exchange recently surpassed the 3,000-point mark for the first time since 2008. The government’s goal is to bring the debt-to-GDP ratio down from 91% to 80% by 2028, he added.
In health, Hassan announced a JD45 million expansion of Al Bashir Hospital and the construction of a new outpatient complex on part of the old Customs Department land in Qweismeh, scheduled for implementation between 2025 and 2028.
The prime minister reaffirmed that improving the economy remains the government’s top priority, alongside advancing infrastructure, transportation, and healthcare projects to enhance citizens’ quality of life.
