Livingston County Probation Supervisor Liz Laney Receives Inaugural Robert M. Maccarone Award
GENESEO, N.Y., Sept. 15, 2026 — The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services recently presented Livingston County Probation Supervisor Elizabeth Laney with the inaugural Robert M. Maccarone Award for Outstanding Service by a Probation Professional. State officials announced the new award at the NYS Probation Officers Association Conference in July where Laney was publicly recognized by her colleagues from across the state.
The accolade recognizes exceptional service, dedication, and professionalism demonstrated by a probation officer which has significantly contributed to the field of community corrections within the criminal justice system. County officials lauded Laney’s accomplishment during the September Public Services Committee meeting in the Geneseo Government Center.
Laney said she was honored to be the inaugural recipient of the award and credited the entire probation team for this recognition.
“We have a very talented probation team who work hard each and every day to serve our community,” she said. “I am proud of the work we do and happy to serve the community where I grew up and continue to reside and raise my family.”
The award notification states Livingston County Probation Director Lynne Mignemi nominated Laney, “in recognition of her steadfast pursuit of excellence, professionalism and mentorship throughout your 20 years of employment with Livingston County Probation.”
During the ceremony, Mignemi spoke on Laney’s essential work in the probation department describing how she goes above and beyond in her profession.
“With clear moral integrity, tone, honor and exceptional balance, Probation Supervisor Liz Laney has advocated for the individuals we serve, victims, partner agencies, and the probation team,” said Mignemi. “She is one of the brightest and the best representatives of probation. We know that in this county and now it is known across the state.”
Fellow probation supervisor and long-time colleague Michelle Jordan expounded on Laney’s many attributes and how well merited this award is.
“She has been a leader, an inspiration, and a driving force behind many of the positive changes at Livingston County Probation,” said Jordan. “I am grateful and proud to call her both a mentor and a colleague.”
Deputy Commissioner and Director of the Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives Matthew Charton was on hand to present the award.
“We know that the work of a probation supervisor is one of the most critical in achieving the department’s mission and Liz’s work in Livingston County should be held up as a model statewide,” he said.
Mignemi reiterated her personal admiration for Laney, “For me particularly, she has been an honest, creative voice and sounding board with a shared vision of excellence for the Probation Department”
